Oriola marks start of construction of new distribution centre in Järvenpää

Oriola has marked the start of construction of its new distribution centre in Järvenpää, Finland, with a foundation stone ceremony together with partners, stakeholders and representatives from Finnish society.

17.6.2026

The event represents an important milestone in the development of the new facility, which will strengthen pharmaceutical logistics capabilities and support the long-term availability of medicines and health products in Finland.

From ceremony to construction

The ceremony marked not only a symbolic starting point, but tangible progress on site. On the very same day, installation of the high-bay storage structure began, using some of the highest cranes available in Finland.
This reflects the momentum of the project as it moves from planning into active construction.

National importance highlighted

State Secretary Laura Rissanen, representing the Finnish Government, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of strengthening pharmaceutical logistics as part of Finland’s security of supply and healthcare resilience.

A key step in Oriola’s long-term development

Oriola’s CEO, Katarina Gabrielson, emphasised the strategic importance of the project as a milestone in Oriola’s long-term plan to modernise and future-proof operations for the next 40–50 years.

Chief Supply Chain Officer Tuomas Tiilikainen provided further detail on the new distribution centre, explaining how it will enhance capacity, efficiency and sustainability, and support increasingly complex pharmaceutical flows.
supporting customers and society

The new distribution centre will:

  • strengthen the reliability and efficiency of pharmaceutical distribution
  • support increasingly complex and temperature-sensitive products
  • enhance capacity and sustainability in the supply chain

For customers, partners and society, this means stronger and more resilient logistics, built for a changing healthcare landscape. Ultimately, it ensures that medicines and health products continue to reach patients safely and reliably, both today and in the future.

A shared milestone

A symbolic highlight of the ceremony was the burial of a time capsule, which will be placed beneath the future building. The moment brought together representatives from Oriola, project partners and the City of Järvenpää, marking the significance of this milestone and the long-term nature of the investment.
